A community nursery run by Uniting Kildonan, located in Coburg in Melbourne’s north, is encouraging families and communities to come together to learn about growing and preparing fresh food at its annual Garden Fiesta.

Garden Fiesta 2017

Nestled in historic PepperTree Place’s lush garden setting, the Garden Fiesta will feature hands-on workshops and locally-grown, organic, tasty and homemade treats from the pop-up café and BBQ. Garden Fiesta attendees will also be able to purchase a diverse range of affordable spring seedlings from the Community Nursery, visit community information and market stalls and enjoy free family entertainment and kids’ activities.

PepperTree Place coordinator Natasha Van Velzen says the annual Garden Fiesta is a great opportunity to connect with nature and the outdoors, meet others in the community and learn how to grown your own produce.

This year the Garden Fiesta is offering a number of free workshops, including make-your-own nature crown and summer seed ball using natural materials.

While the kids are entertained, other workshops include how to plant and grow berries, native bush food and herbs in your own backyard. Why not bring your own ukulele and learn some summer tunes or build your fitness at the hula hoop workshop?

The eclectic musical line up features artists Ukulele Ewie, Jukebox Rocket, a three-piece 50s and 60s rock band, Toni Swain and local women’s choir, Thornberries.

Everyone is encouraged to get to the Garden Fiesta using sustainable transport options like riding a bike, walking or catching public transport. There is a bus and tram stop at the corner of Bell Street and Sydney Road and the Upfield Line train Coburg stop is only a short five-minute stroll away.
