Enlivening Christmas Day for many

For many of the people we work alongside, Christmas Day can be the loneliest and most difficult time of year.

Every year Uniting Prahran hosts a Christmas lunch for vulnerable people. In 2017 they partnered with Stonnington City Council for a grand gathering of 300 guests to share the joy and celebration of the season. The Stonnington City Brass Band enlivened the event, and the younger guests were entertained by a balloon artist and face-painting.

Presents were delivered to 80 children, fulfilling wishes made to Santa in advance. There were gift bags for men, women and for families, and 25 hampers were donated by Wesley College for a very popular raffle.

The event could not have been successful without the support of 60 wonderful volunteers who decorated the hall and prepared the food and gifts.

‘It was fun, I loved helping out and I will be back next year,’ said volunteer
Denise Palmer.

A big thank you to the contributions from other local businesses and community groups who supported, including: Coles Prahran; Direct Chemist Outlet; Prahran Market; Bakers Delight Toorak; the Father Bob Maguire Foundation; Volunteering Victoria; Dan Murphy’s Prahran; Victoria Police Malvern; and Melbourne
Fire Brigade.
